UNFINISHED BUSINESS:
MTR thanks all that have paid their current dues. A reminder that everyone's dues will be payable at the same time, April 2004. For those that haven't by now paid your dues just circle "renewal" and make any corrections on the application, sign, date and mail to me. If you have any question about what your dues, please check with me. We still have a few who haven't renewed. Hopefully everyone will re new soon, we appreciate your support.
We still need to continue to look for additional sponsors/advertisers, remember they get twelve ads in the newsletter and a listing on the web page; it's a good deal for $30 a year. The ads will continue to run twelve months from the date they sign on. We can add a third page to our newsletter if necessary. Creasy's is the only current advertiser whose ad renewal is payable, that haven't renewed, pending the sale of their Dealership. The new Honda Dealer will retain the Creasy name and hopefully will continue their ad in Happy Trails.

UPDATES, NEWS, COMMENTS:
Bill Jones is at home. He is slowly making progress however it will be a long and drawn out recovery. Julia is busy getting him to and from the doctor and therapy. And Jim Ashe is doing much better. Below is an e-mail from our webmaster on Jim's progress.

Bonnie and I visited Jim and Judy yesterday at their home in Oakland. Jim needed some help with his computer. The computer seems to be an excellent form of therapy for him. He seems to be doing much better and even grilled hamburgers for us. His progress has advanced to the point that his therapy at Healthsouth has been cut in half…….
Jim is also back online now and if you get a chance drop him an e-mail at his old address: MotorLTjim@aol.com. Jim really seems to enjoy reading his e-mail but keep in mind that it's still hard for him to type so he may not respond.

On The Road

There's been a lot going on since the last newsletter. We had our second annual cookout, "Son of Burnt Burger" plus a ride to the sixth annual Po-Boy Picnic at Mousetail State Park. I can't comment on Mousetail because we didn't make it. I had a good excuse at the time but for the life of me I can't think of it now. I'm getting' to the age that if something happened last week, it's ancient history. I do remember Don and Marion Oller commenting that although the turnout wasn't as good as it has been, they still managed to raise enough money to run the chapter for the rest of the year. The weather was probably the reason for the poor showing. It wasn't the best of days to ride if I remember.
As for our cookout at Chickasaw, we can't say the weather didn't cooperate for that event. It was perfect. I think we had twenty-nine souls show up which was pretty good. All the food was gone at the end of the day so I guess Ol' Skillethead figured it about right.
On a personal note, a few of us rode up to the Smoky Mountains on vacation where I hooked up with my brother, Danny (AKA Taterhead) and his family. On Tuesday, David Elston, Brenda Crawford, Charlie and Darnell Gibson and Hildia and I joined the Taterhead clan on a hike to Grotto Falls. Beautiful country no doubt but to get there we had to ride our motorcycles over this eleven mile pig path called the Roaring Fork Nature Trail. It was about the width of a golf cart path and coiled its way up and down and around the mountains a flabbergasted rattlesnake.
Our group must be in pretty good shape 'cause we made the three-mile hike to the falls without a single cardiac event. It's good to do a hike after a long bike ride. Gets the kinks out and it gives your ticker some well needed exercise. Floyd Nunnelee and Dorothy were along as well but Dorothy had recently had foot surgery so they opted to visit Ripley's Aquarium in Gatlinburg, the most visited Aquarium in the U.S., while we rode the trail and hiked to the falls. We had dinner with Taterhead and his family that evening at the Smokey Mountain Brewery and Grill. Fantastic steaks.
One more thing of note. While in the Smokies, we visited a covered bridge in Harrisburg and the strangest thing happened. An event worthy of the Art Bell radio show unless I miss my guess. The reason I say this is because one Charles Gibson, while making a 360 degree turn, dumped himself, his motorcycle and supercargo, Darnell, smack dab into the middle of the intersection. His explanation, "Ah, ah don't know what happened. Somebody must have pushed me." Well, if somebody pushed him and we didn't see anybody, you can only come to one conclusion. The Harrisburg Covered Bridge is haunted. Wooeeeeeeeeeooooooooooo!

Trails End…………………Continued From Page One

"WHERE WE GO ONE, WE GO ALL" are available at a cost of $2.00 per set and we need to move some of these suckers so please, please have mercy and buy a few…
We received a thank you card from Jimmy and Margaret Rogers for our support at the recent Party at the Dennie's farm in Fayette County.. With their permission I read their note to the membership. We were all pleased and delighted that Jimmy and Margaret were able to attend our June meeting.
Twelve MTR members and one visitor attended the Freedom Wings sixth Annual Po-Boy Picnic at Mousetail Landing State Park. Don and Marion Oller, Promoters of this event and charter members of MTR, gave us a first hand report. They had seventy in attendance and raised enough money to run their Chapter for another year. They are planning the Seventh Annual event already and the date is set for June 5, 2004. Mark your calendar now. The Picnic pictures are on our web site.
Mike Hopper furnished flyers on the 141st Annual Battle of Britton Lane a Civil War Reenactment, September 27-28, 2003. A copy of this flyer is in this newsletter. Call (731) 935.2209 or see Brenda Hamilton or Mike details.

New Business:
Kan Do Printing & Graphic Sign Center 17650 Hwy. 64, Somerville, TN is now taking orders for Memphis Tour Rider shirts and hats. I have a price list available. If you are interested in ordering please call 901-565-4272 and handle purchasing directly with the owner/operator, Keith Namishia. (A few of our members have complained that Kan Do did not position the MTR logo high enough and when the shirt tail is stuffed into the pant waist some of the logo is hidden. You might want to remind Kan Do to be sure and take this into account ed.)
The scheduled Saturday night June 14th Magnolia Moon Dinner Ride to Chapman's Restaurant near Walnut Mississippi was canceled due to the overcast and rainy weather however it has been rescheduled for July 12th. See details in this newsletter.
Saturday June 21st. was our second annual cookout, Son of Burnt Burger II at Chickasaw State Park. It was a Free Lunch and included a 50/50 drawing. We had 29 folks in attendance; we enjoyed an assortment of good food, soft drinks, conversation and camaraderie. The weather cooperated beautifully couldn't have been better. Special thanks to MTR Chef's Stewpot and Skillethead for their gourmet know how. Another excellent job of planning and preparing the lunch so the ladies could sit back and watch. Also thanks to Robert Crawford for getting there early and staking out our claim to the pavilion. Thanks to all our members and guests for they're participation. Mike Hopper won $85.00 in the 50/50 drawing. Pictures are on the MTR web site.
Dan Randall is working on various Tennessee Baptist Children's Home activities details are forthcoming.
We will continue to post rides/events as they come up both in the newsletter, Web Page and at the meetings. As always if anyone has any suggestions for rides or events please let B.J. know. If you have questions about our rides, check out the web site. Most of the time there are flyers and information posted there.
Thanks to all that brought door prizes. Win one bring one. We really had a lot this month, including a homemade coconut cake proving door prizes don't necessarily have to be motorcycle related. (And it was delicious. ed!)

Quotation of the Month: "Why worry about rain, because either it's going to rain or it won't"……………………………Richard Petty

MTR ORGANIZED RIDE MILAGE-2003

For your information, the Memphis Tour Riders have ridden a grand total of 1060 miles for the year 2003. This figure reflects the cookout at Chickasaw. I realize this is not much for so late in the season but remember, some of our big rides don't come off till the fall.

Long Distance Motorcycle Award
As promised, we are planning a long distance champion award. Sometimes this fall, for all those interested in competing, you will be asked to bring your bike to the meeting for odometer verification. Exactly one year later or as close as we can get to it, we will check each odometer again and the motorcycle that has accumulated the most miles will receive a trophy or plaque. Details will be ironed out at the next meeting. And remember, this is for fun and in no way should be construed as a competitive event.

Deja Moo: The feeling that you've heard this bull before.
