Something happened on our most recent ride that's never happened before that I can remember. After enjoying some fine catfish at the Lakeview Inn in Reelfoot we saddled up and headed home. David Elston used to work this area when he was in the potato chip business and he knew the back roads well so I asked him to lead us home. I can do that see, 'cause I'm the Road Commander.
We left Lakeview around six PM I guess but a few of the members needed gas so we pulled in to a station in the little hamlet of Hornbeak. Well, you know how a gas stops go. Everybody gets off the bikes for a leg stretch and a few usually duck in the station for a cold drink or a potty break. Our stop was like this but after a few minutes we were ready to go so we barreled out of the station, probably in a bigger hurry than normal cause we had just left the café back at the lake. We took a hard left at the top of the hill and away we went, just like we had good sense. Charley Gibson was riding drag and says he tried to radio us that we had a rider left in the station but I never heard him. David said he didn't hear Charlie's transmission either. We were five miles away by the time we realized that we were short two motorcycles and four people. .So we stopped and wasted
several minutes while trying to figure out what to do. David eventually back-tracked to Hornbeak while the main group continued on to Highway 51 where we parked and waited.
The missing bikes, not knowing that we took highway 183 out of Hornbeak, went to Troy via highway 21 while David tried to run them down. To make a long story short, we finally got back together and everyone arrived home safe and sound.
Now, if we had left Mary Carol Scott in the service station or Darnell Gibson or even Hildia, everything would have been hunky-dory. They would just sluff it off and say, no big deal. Stuff happens. But we didn't leave them. No, we had to run off and leave, of all people, Brenda Hamilton. That's like a Mafia chauffeur running off and leaving the Don standing on the sidewalk in the rain. And make no mistake about it, there's going to be hell to pay. So everybody stay alert and keep your guard up, at least for the next few weeks. And whatever you do, don't make Brenda mad.
Brenda, if you read this I apologize, but it wasn't my fault. It was David Elston's fault. Remember, he was leading. That's what I get for putting the club loon in charge. But I fired him that night and nipped the problem in the bud. Seriously, our apologies to Brenda Hamilton, Mike Hopper, Charley and Darnel Gibson. We got in to big of a hurry and we are sincerely sorry. And thanks to Floyd Nunnelee for riding on ahead and securing a table for us. We were a large group and I'm sure that saved us from waiting on the porch all afternoon. We had a great turnout too. Fifteen bikes, plus twenty members and two guests, all listed below. A big wheelie to all…
Larry Cole, Gene and Kathy Dennie, Myron and Bev Coney, David Elston, Stan Viets, Floyd Nunnelee, Robert and Judy Crawford, Charley and Darnel Gibson, Mike Hopper and Brenda Crawford, Terry Scott, Bill Franklin, Bill and Bonnie Healey, BJ And Hildia Max and last but certainly not least, Brian Thompson and Mike Toddy, guests of Terry Scott and Charley Gibson.

I guess everyone knows by now that our MTR web site is back up and running. We owe
Eddie Garner, our Web Master for life, a big thank you for getting us back on line amid all the damage he and
Bonnie experienced as a result of Hurricane Elvis. How about that new look? Also for those technically inclined the archived pictures are stored on the AOL site and can be reviewed as before without any problem. When Eddie has time he will transfer them to our huge new 1 GB server, it takes a lot of time to transfer them with a 56K modem.
(Update: Picture transfer has been completed)
