NOTICE

On the day after our newsletter editor, B.J. Max, returned from Texas his home experienced a power surge moments before the electricity went off. It was off for two hours and when the city finally gets it up and running again, B.J.’s computer, the one he does the MTR Newsletter with, was no more. He lost everything Files, records, templates, everything. B.J. is not going to replace the computer anytime soon and feels this would be a good time for a fresh face with a new angle to step up and take over as the Happy Trails Editor/Publisher. Any volunteers? This is your chance to make a contribution to MTR. The newsletter if the glue that binds us together and as newsletter editor you would have a lot to say about the direction we take in the future…If there is anybody interested please, don’t be bashful. Please contact me ASAP.

The Memphis Tour Riders want to express their appreciation and gratitude for the wonderful job BJ has done for us over the years. We are grateful for his time, hard work and dedication in creating and making Happy Trails, the best.
Thanks Billy.

A trip to the Trail of Tears (or boy did we miss BJ and his GPS)
By
Dan Randall

What a beautiful day for an adventurous ride to Waterloo Al for the 11th annual TOT ride. The three bikes headed out at the prescribed time and started east, myself in the lead with Barry & Sharon behind me and Stan bringing up the rear. Everything went well until we reached our meeting place with Gene. We blew right by it as my mind was on Somerville and not Oakland. U turn number 1 to go back and wait missed him anyway. Onward to Savannah, what a great ride on a beautiful day. My fearless leadership abilities found our way down Hwy 69 to the little blue building; Stan was big help in this one. Down the twisty narrow road we go and on and on and on… We went for quite a little way before we realized we had missed the part of the GPS that told me to go left at the fork not right, U turn number 2. Back to the junction and into Waterloo finally. We walked around, picked up Charlie’s supply of Longhorn, (they were a little skimpy this year

Ongoing business:
Last meeting I mentioned my “The missing Link” the Sponsor Page link on our MTR web page on our computer doesn’t exist and asking if anyone else had this problem? We eventually solved the problem by disabling the Norton firewall before opening AOL and it works fine. We evidently have a program conflict.
Please support our advertisers when you can.
(Update they are now open)
Our tentative plans to consider moving our meeting location to the new Fox Ridge Pizza at Germantown Parkway and Dexter are temporarily on hold. They are not open yet however if you get a chance to eat there before the October meeting which again will be at Shoney’s, please do so and see what you think so a final decision can be made at our next meeting. If not Fox Ridge and you have any other locations in mind we will discuss them at the October meeting.
Dick Salveson reported on their trip to the Motorcycle Jubilee at the Opryland Hotel in Nashville, over the weekend of September

11th. They enjoyed it so much they became the new owner of a 2005 Harley Classic Lehman Trike, mostly red, how about that. We have added 2 Harleys to our motorcycle mix this month, Terry Scott and Mary Carole also purchased a new 2005 White Harley Soft tail. Wow MTR is a diversified group.
We still can use additional sponsor/advertisers, if you need extra copies of the newsletter or need one mailed to prospects, let me know or if they have access to the internet have them check our web site, all the sponsor information and of course the current newsletter is also there.
MTR patches and rockers “WHERE WE GO ONE, WE GO ALL” are still available. @$5.00 per set.
As most of you know nasty weather cancelled our August 28 Earthquake Ride to Reelfoot Lake but it was replaced by a nice Dinner at Vinegar Jims in Arlington, TN and attended by 9 members. Our Saturday, September 4th, Hazel Antique Ride and lunch at Reelfoot Lake was a success even though it was Labor Day weekend. We had 10 members and 1 visitor attending. Pictures are on the web site.
Let’s continue to send me current news or articles, stories etc. and get involved.
The Bike Show for Saturday October 23, 10 AM to 4 PM at the Tennessee Baptist Children’s Home Campus is on schedule. We will have gallon coffee cans for the donations for the Best Of Show Bike, the plan is for the public to vote by putting money in the can in front of their favorite bike, the most money wins, with all donations going to Tennessee Baptist Children Home. Also as an added attraction the children at TBCH will be decorate the money cans. Check this link for more details. http://www.tbch4kids.org/golftourney/index.htm. Dan is working on a flyer.
Updates: William (Bill) Jones is still at home. All in all Julia reports William is still making some progress and happy to be home. Please continue our prayers for William and Floyd’s daughter, Sue George
We had 3 Rides scheduled before our October meeting; hopefully you were able to make them. The Doodle Soup Do on the 11th, the flyer was in the September newsletter was a huge success, 8 bikes and 13 members. The Trail of Tears Ride to Waterloo, AL on September 18th was a good one, 3 bikes and 4 members. See Dan’s ride report and check out the pictures on the web site. The Texas Trip had 12 members and was a great success. The Saddle Sore 1000 scheduled on October 2nd, but has been cancelled due to lack of interest.
Our first Long Distance Motorcycle Award ended at the September meeting. MTR has a lot of long distance riders resulting in a close finish. Congratulations to Tim Hendrickson, the winner, as well as all that participated and for those that have asked, this was a one time event and another one is not planned, at this time, for 2005.
We will continue to post rides/events as they come up both in the newsletter, Web Page, and at meetings. As always if anyone has any suggestions for rides or events please let me know.

Quotation for the month: Friendship is the only cement that will ever hold the world together………………………….……Woodrow Wilson

though) and ate some good fix’ns including a bowl of Gumbo by Stan.
We decided to start our journey home early and skipped the supper part of the ride. Back down the twisty narrow road we go and come to another fork in the road, a 50-50 chance to get it right, well U turn number 3 occurred shortly there after. Back to the fork take the correct leg and get to the blue building, what a relief that building has become to see. Back on Hwy 69 to 64 and our nexstopin Bolivar. Here we had an accident in the gas station parking lot when a mini-van didn’t see Stan standing beside his bike and backed into him. No one was hurt and no damage to the bike so she
went on her way and so did we as quickly as we could. Just west of Oakland another mini-van trying to get out of the left lane because a sheriff’s squad was coming down the road did not bother to look and turned directly into my front wheel. I moved over to my right toward the shoulder as he finally noticed me, moved back to his left lane, let me by and then tried to do the same thing to Barry & Sharon. As Barry let him know he was number one in our hearts, Stan had slowed down and let him in behind Barry. As the squad passed by he gave us the thumbs up as if to say everything is ok, but I wonder why the driver of the van was not pulled over and asked if he was ok. Oh well all is well that ends well and we all made it home safely and enjoyed our day of adventure.

Congratulations to Tim Hendrickson
