Diversity... The American Heritage Dictionary defines it as variety and multiformity. Well this past weekends trip to Phillips Grocery sure showed the Memphis Tour Riders diversity. We had Two BMWs, Three Yamahas (really a half of a Yamaha and half of a Honda), (Congratulations Barry and Sharon on your New Gold Wing), Three Harleys, and Seven Hondas on the ride. What a collection of the major marquees in one group. More than one member commented on the number of different bikes on one ride and 15 in all what a great turnout.

Well the riding season is in full swing. Everyone is putting their final plans for their journeys together. We have had a couple of great rides already to clear out our riding cobwebs and prepare us all for a safe riding season. I
myself am ready to enjoy a few rides together this year and more importantly the camaraderie that the MTR members show to each other, even a Yankee like me.

Remember ...Ham and eggs... It’s a day’s work for a chicken, a lifetime commitment for a pig.

Ride it like you stole it &
Keep the rubber side down

The Joke of the Month

Two little old ladies were attending a rather long service at their church.
One leaned over and whispered, “My butt is going to sleep.”

Her friend leaned over and said, “I know. I heard it snore three times.”

We will continue to post rides/events as they come up in the Newsletter, Web Page, and at the Meetings. We will have 4 Birthdays in April, Sandy Stroud on the 11th, Terry Scott on the 18th, Fran Salveson on the 19th and Martha Sharp on the 24th. Ongoing business:
The members present at our new meeting location, Fox Ridge Pizza had favorable comments. We had a few first time minor problems but they will improve. The Fox Ridge meeting room is much larger with a lot more room, nice. Come to the next meeting and check it out. Billy Max was not able to be at the March meeting, due to the loss of his older brother, our condolences to Billy and the family. In his absence I discussed the details and sign-up procedure for the 2005 Long Ranger Event that started with the March meeting. Four signed up for the event at the meeting with more signing up during the Mid South Cycle Show at the Agricenter International Center and the dinner ride to Safari’s in New Albany, MS for the good food. Billy and Hilda also located our new MTR shirts in the Sears casual department; they are Musingwear, Ol0Heather Gray polo shirts @ $24, in event you haven’t purchased yours yet. Thanks Billy and Hildia. Dan Randall brought the iron-on Logo transfers along with the instruction and distributed them to those present. The plan is for everyone that wants to have matching shirts for the April 23, Wheels of  Wonders ride to purchase their own shirts at Sears, and then iron the logo transfer on the back with a small logo for the front. I under stand if you follow the
directions, most of the time the transfer will be successful. Sounds like fun. If you didn’t get your transfers and want them,
please contact Dan and he will get them to you or bring them to the April meeting. MTR agreed to reimburse Dan for the transfers cost and a color cartridge for his printer, as necessary. Thanks Dan.

The Wheel of WONDERS Ride will be on Saturday April 23. The registrations are not coming in as fast as expected. If you are others are planning on riding and have not registered yet, now is the time, April 23rd is almost here. Most have circled Bumpus H-D as their departure point. Registration forms are available on the MTR we page. You will pick up your packets at Bumpus H-D Dealership at 2160 Whitten Road. The Christian Motorcycle Association will be having a free pancake breakfast during the Saturday bike staging at both Bumpus locations. Also if anyone is interested Wonders need volunteers to detail the bikes (materials furnished) around the first week in April and then to help set up the bikes in the exhibition probably the second week in April. Let me know if anyone is interested and I will get you in touch with the
right person

Our $24.00 annual MTR memberships will be due in April. Please copy renewal form from www.mtrmc .com correct as necessary, also please note any changes and snail mail direct to Hildia Max or bring to our April meeting. If for some reason you are not going to renew, let us know so we don’t bug you.

Remember to SEE: Search, Evaluate,
Execute. Don’t just ride along on auto
pilot. Engage your brain before engaging
first gear. Constantly search for potential
dangers, evaluate what’s happening around you and execute measures to keep yourself out of trouble. In other words: think, think, think

Ride De-Briefing

Mid-South Motorcycle Show-Safari Ride

bjmax

The 8th Annual Mid-South Motorcycle Show was no more or less than last year. It looked the same with the exception of the Death Sphere being replaced by Trials Riders which are way more entertaining anyway. But the show itself was the same as though they closed the building last time and left it and its contents locked up for a year, then dusted everything off and opened again this year. The show has
become stale and I for one will nut return.

I read seven odometers while at the show. Chancy, Mike, Todd, Floyd, Barry, Buck Perminter’s and my own. I had Todd Beers read mine and initial the paperwork. Don’t want to get accused of cheatin’or anything like that.

The Memphis Tour Riders, as usual, turned out despite the gloomy looking weather. We had fifteen riders show up and thirteen of them on seven motorcycles made the chilly ride down to Safari’s in New Albany. Floyd Nunnelee was there as was Charlie and Darnel Gibson Barry and Sharon Englander were along and Todd and Cindy Beers
rumbled in on their Harley. Buck and Donna Perminter arrived as we were forming up and Dick and Fran Salverson fell in with us on our way over to US 78. Dan Randall was at the bike show as was Mike Hopper but neither of them made the ride. Brenda had a toothache and Mike returned home to her and Dan’s motorcycle was in the shop.

Safari’s buffet, as usual, was excellent. I overheard several positive comments and even crusty old Dick Salverson seemed to enjoy his meal. The salad bar was fresh with plenty of choices and the food bar was varied with everything from steak to frog legs to Mississippi
‘gator meat Desert was a fantastic peach cobbler with a swirl of ice cream on top. Our waitress, a pretty, soft spoken Southern Belie’ was polite and courteous with plenty of Yes Mam’s and No Sir’s. Well shut my mouth Scarlett and pass the chitlins.’

According to my odometer we rode 159 miles. Add that to the 175 we did on the Polar Bear Ride and so far we have accumulated 334 organized miles this year, seven miles over our projected mileage. We’ve got a great start and I personally am looking forward to every inch of the 6,221 we have left to reach our goal this year.

Life is short good people, ride far.
