Official Journal of the Memphis Tour Riders

Hi Everyone,
Anyone who knows me knows I am not a big fan of the politicians in this town. You can see it on my helmet, my car and in other activities I am involved in. I sure do not want to impose my politics on anyone in our group, but this was
just to good to pass up.

This picture kind of sums up the political situation in Memphis for me. Somehow in the end you hope they all get what's coming to them.

On a totally different subject we have had some great riding weather so far this year and some very terrific rides planned by our ride commander. Be sure to read his recap of the Lambert ride on the website. A great planner and story teller, you can't beat that.

We have been getting great reviews by our visitors to our rides. They have been amazed at how many bikes we get to show up on our rides. We are definitely above all else as a riding club.

Hosting a Barbeque

Summer is a great time to get outside and grill a delicious meal. Here are a few basic safety rules and outdoor-cooking tips to help make sure you and your family einjoy a tasty, safe summer cookout.

•Marinate your ribs in bourbon before barbecuing. The best way to do this is by pouring the whiskey down your throat.
•One safety tip to keep in mind while barbecuing is that you should never, ever light your house on fire.
•It’s important that you choose the right kind of fire for grilling meat Class D
magnesium-based fires are not the right kind of fire for grilling meat
•Whatever you do, don’t shout the phrase “Johnsonville brats!” at the top of your lungs. Don’t let your neighbors do that, either.
•Do you have an entire set of tableware designed with a playful, summery
watermelon-slice theme? Well, isn’t that adorable. Let me see that spoon! Even the spoon is a little watermelon. Honey, come here and look at this spoon.
•.Don't forget to repeatedly baste your cooking pork in barbecue sauce, which will “mask the spoiled taste.”
•The endangered Cebu cinnamon tree of the Philippines is the best firewood for grilling. Use anything less, and you might as well be cooking your food on top of smoldering raccoon dung.
•For optimal flavor, raise your own animals, make your own charcoal, and distill your own vinegar. For passable flavor, head on down to Smokey’s Ribs & Things out by the airport.
•When barbecuing veggie burgers, be sure to tie your long hair back. That will keep it away from the flames, you stupid hippie.

MTR Rides Again
Well, we finally got our Best barn Ride of the Year in. If you
remember, last year it was rained out or perhaps I should say, blown out. There were thunderstorms ‘a boilin’ on that attempt and the ride was canceled....But this year we got the thing in and despite the raw weather we had a great turnout....Nine bikes in all and fifteen souls bundled up for a November like ride...It was cold, damp and cloudy but MTR soldiered on with a smile and all in all we had a fine time...

First stop was in New Albany for a planned leg stretch which turned out to be a warm up stop. My toes felt frostbitten and I wasn’t alone. I think everyone except our Yankee members were chilled. Next stop was Graceland South, better known as the birthplace of the King, Elvis Presley...Lots of additions to this Rock N’ Roll shrine since I was last here...There's a gift shop, museum and plenty of parking now....The 5th annual Blue Suede Cruise was going on and the parking tot was filled with lots of beautiful Street Rods. We left there Presley home and rode over to Tupelo’s Antique Car Museum and the Blue Suede Cruise car show...By this time everyone was starving so we spread out
and re-fueled on burgers and Dawgs....

We tired early of lookin’ at cars, left Tupelo early and headed for the Sardis and Arkabutler Dams. On the way the sun finally began breaking through but its rays weren’t enough to thaw the incessant 20 MPH North wind and we continued riding in chilly temps....

We arrived in Tunica and the Horseshoe Casino only to learn that the wait for the Buffet was two hours. No thanks. We saddled up and cut a chogie for Southaven and the Hacienda Mexican Restaurant...Good food there and no line at all....After a fine meal, I had the Mexicana dinner, we said our goodbyes and went our separate ways....Hildia and I arrived home around nine PM...It had been a long day but an enjoyable one...

How many of us would walk
into this
bathroom?

Our next ride is May 2lst to Lamberts up in Sikeston, Missouri. Lamberts, where they heap food on your plate and abuse on your head and for some perverse reason that I don’t understand, folks love to get hit upside the head with a dinner roll thrown from clear across the other side of the restaurant. If you have never been to Lamberts, then don’t miss this ride...It will be one of the best of the year...

MTR’s projected miles for this time of the season was 550. We have already exceeded that figure by 267 miles...So far this year we have ridden, as a group, 817 miles. Not bad for a little outfit that was counted out just a couple of years ago...

Life is Short. Ride Far.
