Trails End Minutes by Stan Viets

July 2005

The following Members attending our June meeting, Floyd Nunnelee, Rusty Higgins, Barmy and Sharon Englander, Margaret Rogers, Eldon and Louise Reeves, Buck and Donna Permenter, Larry Cole, Brenda Hamilton, Darnell Gibson, Terry and Scott, Billy and Hildia Max, Tod and  Cindy Beers, Dan Randall, Rick Toddy, Stan Viets and our visitor Mark Hansen. Also we were pleased to introduce and welcome our new members, Eldon and Louis Reeves attending their first meeting, they ride a Honda Trike. They also made their first MTR. ride to Mousetail S.P. Thanks to all for attending. Hildia reported our current bank balance is $ 1,215.73

Dan Randall still needs current news or articles, stories etc. you would like to have published. We thanked Dan for the good work he does on the newsletter. How about the chartreuse labels he said just wait until you see next month’s newsletter.

If you have checked our MTR web site you will note the Guest Book feature is currently unavailable, it seems some unknown spammers love MTR and post so much junk it swamped the site. Eddie had to shut it down temporarily, it became unmanageable, we are hoping they will go away in time.

We had 8 Birthdays in June, John Williams on the 6th, Brenda Hamilton on the 8th, Bob Branch on the 20th, Sharon Englander on the 21st, Beverly Coney on the 23rd, MC Scott on the 28th and Marion Oller on the 30th. There were 3 Anniversary this month, Tod and Cindy Beers on the 12th, Dan and Linda Randall on the 26th and Woodie and Lin Hill on the 29th, congratulations to all. We all enjoyed the birthday cake Terry and Mary Carol furnished for the group. Thanks.

Ongoing business: Our Fox Ridge server was Traci. Remember the tips are always added to your check at our meetings. If anyone needs any extra logo transfers we still have some available, see Hildia. Also Dan is working on the smaller logo and would have some at the July meeting. Our $24.00 annual MTR memberships were due in April. We only have a few memberships’ that haven’t renewed. If you haven’t yet and intend to, please mail your dues to Hildia or me. We thank you for your continuing support. If for some reason you are not going to renew, let us know that too so we can take you off the mailing list.

As previously mentioned four of our MTR Sponsors have renewed for anoTher year, Mulch Works, Kan Do Printing, N-Line Trailers and Stroud Photography. We will follow up on the two that are due and haven’t renewed yet. Please support our sponsors if you have a need for their services.
The Saturday May2lst.Lamberts ride was our biggest turnout for the year so far. 27 members and guests, thanks to Billy Max for his excellent report and all the planning entailed in this ride. Check all the pictures on the web site when you get a chance.

The June 4th the Mousetail Picnic & AGWA Rally presented by The Freedom Wings of Jackson, TN was well attended and our 12 members in attendance had a great time. Those attending were impressed with all the wonderful food and desserts available. Thanks to Don and Marion Oller andtheir crew that made it all possible.

Dan and Mark Henson both commented on the Tunica Air Races Sunday noting it was not well organized in their opinion, hot, boring and they left early. Parking for motorcycles and the access roads left a lot to be desired. l have heard mixed reviews.

An interesting note from the June AMA chattered Clubs and Promoters newsletter:
In 2004 AMA Clubs and Promoters donated a total of over 5.5 million dollars to various chartable organizations, using the donations reported on the Charter applications to establish a total. MTR reported time money spent on the TCBH Christmas Party and children’s gifts as our charitable donation. Thanks MTR for your support.

Based on a Commercial Appeal article “The Art of the Motorcycle” Exhibit at the Pyramid is getting good reviews but thin crowds, let’s do our part and add to the 35,000 plus attendees that have already visited this unique Memphis event. Scene folks may be under the impression that the Pyramid is closed not realizing it is open for this Exhibit.

July 9th Burnt Burger Four, Animal Cookout-Chickasaw State Park, please remember this cookout is free to our members and guests; the only cost is if you buy tickets for the 50/50 drawing. Dan will ride up early and reserve our preferred pavilion near the stable area. The world renowned MTR cooking staff reported there will be plenty of bratwurst this year as well as a lot of ice for the ice cream, etc; you never know exactly what is on the menu so you have to be there to find out. Departure details will follow.

July 10th the Cockeyed Camel Restaurant Poker Run to Benefit Martha’s Manner, “A Day Activity Center for Mentally Challenged Women”. Dan Randall discussed the Poker Run and distributed flyers which also have been distributed at bike night. The Poker Run will be hosted by MTR and we need volunteers to staff the starting point as well as the 4 check points, all of which will be within Shelby County, please let Dan know if you can help. There will be cash paid to the first, second and third place winners of the Poker Run, live band, food, 50/50 drawing and door prizes, all for a $15.00 donation per person with the proceeds to benefit Martha’s Manor. Also there will be an article and pictures in the Cordova Appeal section that is biweekly feature within the Commercial Appeal. Watch for it.

Thanks to all that brought door prizes, win one bring one, we appreciate your contribution.

An American Eagle

An American eagle passed away,
Finally felled by time, Who kept America’s foes at bay So freedom's bell could chime. He spread his wings across the land, Standing guard with eagle’s eye, And made our enemies understand
That liberty would never die. He led us through the stormy years
And broke the tyrant's wall. So I’ll ring my bell and shed my tears -
American eagle, I hear your call”

“THE FLAG STANDS FOR ALL WE HOLD DEAR—FREEDOM, DEMOCRACY, GOVERNMENT OF THE PEOPLE, BY THE
PEOPLE, AND FOR THE PEOPLE."

Henry Cabot Lodge, 1915

For Our Troops

As our young men and women
march off to fight a war.
Defending oil our rights
upon another’s shore.

I pray for their safe keeping
and that they all return.

Lets give them the honor
that they so rightly earn.
And for those who gave it all
may your spirits persevere.
As we bow our heads in silence
and our eyes give off a tear.
I thank you from my heart
for my country and my right&
May God bless you all
and raise to new heights.
