Official Journal of the Memphis Tour Riders

The dog days of August came early this year.
They arrived in mid July and seem to want to
help us close out the month. The weatherman
thinks some relief is on the way as I write
this. I hope so for all of our sakes. I do know
though that a little heat did not cool off our
group. On one of the hottest days of the
year so far we had 13 bikes and 24 riders
show up to go approx. 250 miles to eat some
catfish. I for one was very impressed. I know
that the Harley dealership in town could only
get 24 riders to show up to go to the races the same night even though more than twice that many signed up in advance and paid their
money. I went on a poker run the next
morning, it wasn’t any cooler than the
moonlight ride and only 60 bikes showed up
for that event, even though it was sponsored
by Bumpus and Joe’s Crab Shack, both big
names in Memphis for bikers. I am very
proud to fly the MTRflag on my bike
because it truly represents a group of Tour
riders. We should all be proud of what we can accomplish individually and collectively both in riding safely and distances that make other clubs small by comparison.

Some people try to turn back their odometers. Not me, I want people to know “why “ I look this way. I've traveled a long way and some of the roads weren’t paved.’

Notice: A change has been made for Burnt Burger Four

We have reserved Campground # 761 at Arkbutla Lake and I think everyone is going to love this place...First, its closer to home than Chickasaw. Second, it is completely covered with shade. Third, it is flat and we have our very own parking lot. The covered Pavilion has electricity and several tables and
surrounding the pavilion are more tables...We can even have a campfire if we want. The parking lot is shaded as well,, in fact we are kinda in the woods on what I think is the Coldwater River where it spills from Arkbutla Dam. The crew will love it and roads down are scenic....I don’t think anybody will ever
want to go back to Chickasaw....It cost us thirty dollars but next year, we can get it for fifteen and we can reserve it as early as January 2006....We will have the place from 6:00AM until 10:00PM....No firearms...no alcohol.

We have renewed our Web Page Hosting Service, Atlantic net for another year at a cost of $215.40. Eddie Garner is doing a good job on our site and reports to date we have only used about 10% of our available) web space, we have a lot of room to expand. Also we have had approx. 10,500 hits on the site to date. Eddie is now doing additional web design for the Motorcycle community, AGWA both State and Region for starters, see http://www.thebikeweb.com, and you may know someone that would be interested in a Motorcycle Site designed by a Motorcyclist. WEIRD NEWS: TAIWANESE WOMAN FAILS
MOTORCYCLE TEST FOR THE 51ST TIME
A 59 year old woman in Tainan City, Lee Hsu Shui-mian, has been taking the exam to get a license to drive a motorcycle for the past 20 years, but as yet has still failed to snag the valued piece of paper. Lee Hsu has taken the test 50 times, but still lass not passed the oral portion of the exam.
Her husband passed away when she was 33 years old, and since then Lee Hsu has cut hair for a living in an effort to support her three children. When she was 39, she made her first trip to the Tainan Department of Motor Vehicles to seek a license to drive a motorcycle..
Lee Hsu said she required the license since she needed to drive her children to school and for work related purposes. However, given that Lee Hsu is illiterate, each time she has taken the test, she’s failed.
As Lee Hsu is getting on in age, her memory is starting to fail her. In addition, her hearing ability has diminished. Her daughter has suggested to her mother that she give up taking the motorcycle license exam and instead switch to a four-wheel electric vehicle, but Lee Hsu said the electric vehicles are simply too slow. As a result, she refused
to take her daughter’s suggestion and signed up to take the test for the 51st time. She passed the driving test without any problem, but she once again did not score a passing grade on the oral test. Undeterred, Lee Hsu said she intends to try again next time.
