Pictures of the road

The other day at work in a meeting with a
client of ours the discussion digressed into
a trip she was talking about going on with
her husband to Alaska. After our business
meeting concluded we were having lunch
and I brought my pictures from my trip
earlier this year up on the overhead
projector from the Kodak website I have
them on.

It really got me thinking about why I, and
all of us, go to work everyday and do the
things we do to make a living. It’s because
we want pictures from the road to look at
over and over again. With out the money
we earn, most of us would not be able to
have these pictures to look at in meetings.
on rainy days, or in the dead of winter.

The memories of the past trips and the
anticipation of the next trip is what keeps
me motivated to keep working hard sol
can enjoy more pictures from the road. 1
hope it helps ya’ll as well

Keep the shiny side up and
Ride it like you stole it

EVERYTHING HAS A GENDER

You may not know this but all non living things have a gender.

1. Ziploc Bags are Male, because they hold everything in, but you can see right through them.

2. Copiers are Female, because once turned off; it takes a while to warm them up again. It’s an effective reproductive device if the right buttons are pushed, but can wreak havoc if the wrong buttons are pushed.

3. A Hot Air Balloon is Male, because, to get it to go anywhere. you have to light a fire under it. and of course, there’s the hot air part.

4. A Tire is Male, because it goes bald and it’s often over-inflated.

5. Sponges are Female, because they’re soft, squeezable and retain water.

6. A Web Page is Female, because it’s always getting hit on.

7. Subway is Male, because it uses the same old lines to pick people up.

8. An Hourglass is Female, because overtime. the weight shifts to the bottom.

9. A Hammer is Male, because it hasn't changed much over the last 5.000 years, but it’s handy to have around.

10. A Remote Control is Female. Ha! You thought it’d be male, didn’t you? But consider this - it gives a man pleasure. he’d be lost without it. and while he doesn’t always know the right buttons to push. he keeps trying!

Please check the MTR web site often for updates. This is especially important before every scheduled ride; it could be postponed due to various
circumstances?

August 19th thru August 30. The Yankee Invasion. We had a fantastic route for all to enjoy. Here is a brief report of our ride after I joined our small
invasion in Ohio. We had a fantastic scenic ride northbound thru Pennsylvania along the Allegany River, part of two days visiting both sides of
Niagara Falls, then across NY State, with stops at lake Placid, White Face Mountain and then a windy ferry ride across lake Champlain to Burlington,
Vermont with Floyd, Charlie and Darnell, Tad and Cindy, we all enjoyed seeing new places, good scenic roads, good food and fellowship.
Floyd and I left the group at Ben and Jerry’s Ice Cream Factory in Vermont We headed to Cape North, via the Cabot’s Trail, V on Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia. Saw a lot of beautiful scenery and covered a lot of ground, in all we traveled through 16 States and 4 Canadian Providences. All of us encountered a lot of rain on the return ride home. I was gone 19 days including stops for a visit with family in Ohio and NC, arriving back home Sunday the 4th of Sept. My total miles were 5147,1 used 162.6 gallons of gas ranging from $2.55 in states to $4.50 in Canada, and we made 37 stops to fill up. I averaged 31.7 MPG, Floyd did much better. Pictures are on the web site.
September 9, The Hardy Ride. A good time was enjoyed by Floyd. Terry Scott, David and Brenda, Charlie and Darnell and Rick, again good food,
good Arkansas roads and fellowship. The consensus at the meeting was it would be nice to ride and see more Arkansas in2007.
September 16, Trail of Tears, This year it was celebrated in two places, Florence, as well as Waterloo, AL. We had 9 members, Charlie, Buck and
Donna, David and Brenda, Billy ad Hildia, Floyd and my self. We also had two guests, Jerry Lashlee and Samuel Farley; we had a great Catfish dinner at the Catfish Motel on the way home. Jerry even bought a painting by a local artist and bunged it on the back of his Harley. Pictures and links are on the MTR web site; as far as most of us were concerned, Florence is the better of the two locations.
New business:
Dick had suggested we consider moving our meeting location to Perkins Restaurant on Germantown at Wolf Creek Parkway, after discussion of the
pros and cons we decided to stay at Fox Ridge.
David Elston emailed a good tire information article from Dunlap to some of us; we discussed the importance of inspecting your tires before each ride as well as maintaining the correct air pressure. As noted the tire does not support the load-the air pressure does. I emailed the article to all that haven’t seen it yet As a suggestion we all could benefit from reviewing it, good stuff to know and practice.
For our future planning information, Billy always provides in depth itinerary emails for MTR rides. We as a group thank Billy Max for all the work and effort he puts into the detailed planning of our rides.
As some of you may know The Hut in Somerville has reopened and I recently ate lunch there, it is still first-rate with good service and would be a
great destination for a dinner ride.
September 30, Lambert’s, home of the Throwed Rolls, Sikeston, MO was again a success, attending were Billy and Hildia, Tad and Cindy, Bob Branch, Dan, Floyd, Russell Higgins, Terry Scott and me. Good weather, good food and side dishes, we all caught our share of the throwed rolls. We crossed the Mighty Mississippi on the ferry north of Tiptonville, TN on the way home. Check web for pictures.
October 7th and 8th, Blazing Saddles an overnighter at Days Inn and then dinner at Cahoots Restaurant in the old jail, Fayetteville, TN. Check your email for the itinerary. Thanks to all that brought door prizes, it was noted at the meeting that our door prizes numbers have been down recently, we need your help to do better, win one bring one.
Our next meeting will be Thursday October 12th same time, same place. ,at the October 12th meeting MTR members will nominate officers for election at our November meeting. Think about who you want to lead MTR in 2007.MTR theme for 2006 is to Ride Safe and with a sense of awareness. That’s all Folks; enjoy the fall colors and weather. Adjourned at 8:05 P.M.

Organized Rid. Mites

Submitted by Dick Salveson...

A 36 year old female had an accident several weeks ago and totaled her car. A resident of Kilgore, Texas, she was traveling between Gladewater and Kilgore. It was raining, though not excessively, when her car suddenly began to hydroplane and literally flew through the air. She was not seriously injured but very stunned at the sudden occurrence. When she explained to the highway patrolman what had happened, he told her something that every driver should know-
NEVER DRIVE IN THE RAIN WITH YOUR CRUISE CONTROL ON!

She had thought she was being cautious by setting the cruise control and maintaining a safe consistent speed in the rain. But the highway patrolman told her that if the cruise control is on and your car begins to hydroplane-when your tires lose contact with the pavement - your car will accelerate to a higher rate of speed and you take off like an airplane.

She told the patrolman that was exactly what had occurred. The patrolman said this warning should be listed on the driver’s seat sun visor -NEVER USE THE CRUISE CONTROL WHEN THE PAVEMENT IS WET OR ICY, along with the airbag warning. We tell our teenagers to set the cruise control and drive a safe speed, but we don’t tell them to use the cruise control only when the pavement is dry. The only person the accident victim found who knew this (besides the patrolman) was a man who had a similar accident, totaled his car and sustained severe injuries.

Editors note.. I am sure the same applies to your motorcycle....
