Summer time is always a good time to ride. The weather in the Mid-south is always warm to say the least and when you don’t expect it nature cools us off with a surprise rain shower. Being prepared is always a good idea. Drink plenty of non-alcoholic beverages, at lest while you are riding, take frequent breaks and cool down a little. The roads are scary enough out there without trying to brave riding through a thunder-storm or temperatures in the 100’s without knowing what to do. Enjoy the Mid-south in the summer but remember your days as a boy or girl scout and BE PREPARED Ride it Like You Stole it Keep the Rubber Side Down, Dan.

Drinking for Hydration

The best time to consume fluids is before you are thirsty-- by the time you are thirsty, your body is already dehydrated. It's best to drink on a schedule when it is hot outside. Avoid drinks containing caffeine or alcohol while in the sun or heat. These types of drinks stimulate the production of urine thereby promoting dehydration. The best drinks are water or one of the many flavored sports drinks that are on the market.

According to Dr. Nequin, "Research clearly shows that a properly formulated sports drink like Gatorade combines flavor and sodium to encourage people to drink more than they would when they only have access to water. Sports drinks help to replace some of the electrolytes you lose through sweat and provide carbohydrate energy to working muscles."

Special information for all that has an AMEX card; the following may also be available with other credit cards, you may want to check, if interested? This month I noticed something I hadn’t seen before. AMEX Travel Medical Protection, providing secondary coverage for up to $100,000.00 for expenses related to Medical Evacuations (includes helicopter) and medical, dental emergencies while on a trip traveling anywhere in the world, when more than 150 mile radius of your home address for up to 45 days per trip. 1 specifically asked if this included motorcycles, it does as well as planes, trains and cruises. All this for only $12 month. You can sign up a day before your trip; it starts immediately, after they get your info, they will mail you the papers to sign, for beneficiary, etc then just call and cancel with in a month or as soon as your trip is over. You can have a whole year coverage for $139 is this a deal or what?

Another note of interest. AMA Charters has raised 71 million supporting Charity organizations up to date. Proving we Motorcyclists not only care, we do something about it. When I fill out the Charter form I showed our contribution as the $500 we spent on the Boys at the Ranch for their Christmas party.

Thanks to all for the donated door prizes, we appreciate your contribution.

Remember our next meeting will now be September 13,2007 at Fox Ridge Pizza, hope to see you then.

The last time I saw this bike it was being stored in a warehouse in Westmont, IL. About 3 miles from my house there. It was actually being trailered to go to a show.

Oh, say can you see, by the
dawn’s early light,
What so proudly we hailed at
the twilight’s last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and
bright stars, through the
perilous fight,
O’er the ramparts we watched,
were so gallantly streaming?
And the rockets’ red glare,
the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night
that our flag was still
there.

O say, does that
star-spangled banner yet wave
O’er the land of the free and
the home of the brave?

Happy Birthday to us all
