Official Journal of the Memphis Tour Riders

September has made it. Another summer gone by. Another riding season heating up for our fall ride schedule. The rest of our schedule includes some great rides. The summer heat is gone, it’s hurricane season and we are getting to some comfortable temperatures. So dust off the leathers, crank up the hand warmers, turn up the electric vests, and put on some gloves and go for a ride.

On the other hand football has started. So you can become a couch potato from Friday at the local high school, Saturday at the local college and Sunday on the sofa or easy chair watching your favorite pro team. Or you can combine both especially on the goldwings in our club and hook up the satellite dish to the built in big screen in your helmet visor and watch the games as you ride. Not very safe but it could be interesting.

My self, I think I will TIVO the games I want to watch and replay them later. Then I won’t have to see any of the political adds we are going to be bombarded with over the next 60 some days.

I hope to see everyone on the road soon. May the wind be in your hair and not up your pants leg.

Keep the Rubber Side Down

Fewer people attended the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally this year than in past years.

South Dakota - How many fewer is anyone’s guess, but the state Transportation Department believes attendance was about 445,000.That’s based on several factors: a 12 percent reduction in the traffic count, 10 percent fewer vendors, and a 9 percent drop in motel and campground reservations. Rally attendance last year was an estimated 507.000. It was 457.000 in 2006.One other number seems to indicate a smaller Sturgis crowd this year: Emergency room visits
