February 2009

Published by: "The Damn Yankee Press"

Official Journal of the Memphis Tour Riders

As I write this, the recent snow has melted, it is in the sixties outside and it is 9: 17 pm. I am just getting inside the house after work because when I got home it was bike-washing time.

I am a gonna believe Dave Brown and the action weather teams and their doppler radars and, mega watt thingamajigs and clean my bike and then ride it work tomorrow in 70 degree cloudy but sunny weather. I can't wait I may not sleep tonight in anticipation.

For a Yankee like myself to know that I can clean 6 inches of snow off my car on Sunday and ride a motorcycle to work less than 5 days later in seventy degree weather is outstanding. I hope I see ya on the road tomorrow.
Keep it safe
Dan

A couple of Ride Definitions to brush up on
before we ride this season

Group Parking: a formation in which all bikes in a group follow the Lead Bike in single file into a parking lot, making a U-turn such that they can all line up next to each other in the space available with the rear of their bikes against the curb or edge of the lot, the front tires pointing outward.

Track: the zone of a lane in which a rider maintains his position in a group. A lane of traffic is divided into five zones: the left track is the second zone from the left, the middle of the lane (generally not used) is the third zone, and the right track is the fourth zone from the left. Two zones on the sides of a lane serve as margins. A rider may vary his path of travel from his normal track as is required by a road hazard or by an incursion into the group's lane by other vehicles
