Hot Hot Hot Delta Tour

Our riding season hit the halfway point hard on this ride. It was hot, hot hot. My motorcycle thermometer seemed to be stuck on 97 degrees throughout the day. But this group is tough and somehow, as we gasped our way through the furnace known as the Mississippi Delta, everybody managed to smile and have a good time.

We met at Collierville and despite the heat we had a good turnout. Ten motorcycles and one cage (pa-tooie) showed up and when the high noon whistle blew, we were off. We rode a short twenty seven miles the first leg then took a hydration break just to be sure all was well with everybody. The key to surviving on these hot days is slather on the sunscreen, cover up and drink lots of water, even if you don't feel thirsty. I give as an example the Arabs in the Sarah desert. They are covered from head to toe with nothing but their eyes showing.

A Baskin-Robbins popped up in Oxford and we just couldn't resist. That cold ice cream was a hit and revived us all. Then on to Tutwiler for our third rest stop. More water and gas for the bikes. This left us with a seventy six mile run for the Hollywood Cafe in Robbinsville, our destination. We were due at 5:30 and would have made it with ease if our ride commander had not had his head up his....!

But it wasn't my fault. You see, my GPS malfunctioned and my socks wouldn't stay up, I had a powerful itch in an unmentionable place and I was distracted by some cows in a pasture nearby and tomorrow is Sunday and my yard needs mowing and a bunch of other things so it really wasn't my fault. Surely you can see that can't you?

So we arrived at the Hollywood Cafe twenty minutes late. Big deal. The food at the Hollywood was overpriced but decent. After an hour wait we were finally served. But just as we were about to dig in a live singer cranked up playing way too loud. Ruined my meal and I was ready to go as soon as he began...

Roll Call: Stan and Nina Viets, David Elston, Brenda Crawford, Paul Romesburg, Lou and Carla Nathan, Jake Abraham, Terry and MC Scott, Buck and Donna Perminter, Bob Branch and guests George, Rick and Sammy plus Hildia Max and Yours Truly giving us ten bikes, two cars and eighteen souls. Pretty good show.

We rode a total of 301 miles, saddle time was 5:01 and Maximum speed logged was 70 MPH
