On the way to our jump off point, the Kroger store in Collierville, I commented to Hildia that we probably wouldn't have but a few bikes for our seventh Taylor grocery ride. Boy, was I ever wrong. As we waited for our appointed departure time bikes just kept pouring in and we ended up with 17 motorcycles, one car and 33 souls. Another great turnout.
The ride down was nice, not too hot and we just took our time. We opted to take the country roads from Highway 78 via Mt. Pleasant and Holly Springs to pick up highway 7. We took a short leg stretch just outside Holly Springs then headed for Taylor, Mississippi.
We learned years ago that if you don't get to Taylor early, you end up waiting an hour or two so we arrived about a half hour before they opened and we were the first folks to be admitted. The nice waitresses hustled us into the party room and we were all served within the hour. And that ain't bad considering the size of our group. The food was delicious as usual and the staff was friendly and helpful, ehh, except for this one hateful woman who claimed to be the manager. As we queued up, as instructed I might add, to pay our tab it caused a traffic jam. The cash register is near the main entrance and as we trying to pay our bill and get out, new customers were trying to get in and it created a backup right at the front door. Well, that woman mentioned above went bonkers, yelling at us, pushing us around and in general showing her butt and all because we wanted to pay or tab. We did nothing to deserve that kind of treatment. They themselves created the problem by not taking our money at the table. We have always enjoyed Taylor Grocery but as long as I'm Ride Commander, we will never ever return.
After escaping Frau Hitler's firing squad we hightailed it out of there and rode to Baskin Robbins on Highway 7, tanked up on ice cream then hit the trail for home. Good food, good people and good times....
Hildia and I arrived home at nine o'clock straight up and down. At that precise moment a mile to the west of us Stan and Nina, after exiting I-40, were hit by a car as they pulled from a stop sign onto Germantown Parkway. Broken ribs, broken bike and broken spirits but it could have been a lot worse. They will be sore for a few weeks but should make a full recovery. Their bike is now in the hospital itself at DeSota Honda. It too will make a full recovery.
