The weather was perfect. No humidity to speak of, 75 degrees and light winds. And the ride was as good as the weather. We had twenty-one souls aboard fourteen motorcycles show up at the Petro Truck Stop in West Memphis and we roared out of the parking lot promptly at ten o'clock.
To avoid the perpetual construction that plagues I-40 in West Memphis, we circled around to Marion, too US 64 east the hooked a left on AR149 then jumped on I-40 some twenty miles out making our ride to Crowley's Ridge Road a more peaceful way outta' town.
We stopped off at our traditional rest stop, Louisiana Purchase State Park. Lots of level parking space with gift shop and restrooms. We rested for about thirty minutes then hit the trail once more. Crowley's Ridge always delivers a pleasant ride it seems with mile after mile of long sweeping comfortable curves, nothing too challenging just a relaxing way to spend the day.
This year we again ate at Couch's BBQ place but this time, just to keep things interesting we rode on through Jonesboro to Paragould's version of Couch's. No connection between the two restaurants which seems a bit odd. The staff had a room all set up for us and we chowed down. I heard mixed reviews on the food but my BBQ salad wasn't bad...From Couch's we picked up 412 out of town and stopped of at the DQ for a little ice cream to top off dinner. Gas on the way outta' town and David Elston led us back to Memphis via Lapanto. Nice ride home right up until we got home then the construction caught five of us at the new bridge and we were forced to dog walk the bikes for thirty minutes or so...But we didn't let it ruin our trip and all made it home safe and sound...Great weather and a great ride...
ROLL CALL: David Elston, Lou & Carla Nathan, Danny and Lori Parker, Rick and Donna Hightower, John & Mary Ann Dewey, Todd Simpson, Tim & Linda Duncan, John Williams, Buck Perminter, Jake Abraham, Dan Randall, Terry and M.C. Scott, Hildia Max & Yours truly & last but not least, guest rider Joe Shumacher.
A few meaningless stats: We rode a total of 283 miles, our average speed was 45.7 MPH and our top speed was 83.5. Total time in the saddle was five hours and thirty three minutes.....Another great ride in the books...
