I really didn't think many folks would show up but as so often happens, MTR manages to fool me. When Hildia and I arrived at the jumpin' off point there were several bikes already there with more folks coming in regularly. Myron and Bev even showed up in their Mustang Convertible and Rick Totty came by to wish us well and show off his new rag top Vette. Then we thought we heard it thunder. Oh no, not today. Not now. But not to worry, it was only Danny and Lori rolling up on their son's very loud and fast Victory Hammer whapping the throttle and grinning like two little kids. Talk about scattering the chickens.
We left the Kroger store on highway 70 on time and almost immediately hooked a left onto Brunswick road. From this point up until we reached Navy Road in Millington we stuck to the less traveled path. About halfway we rode through a stretch of Mudville Road that looked almost identical to the driveway leading to Tara in the 1939 classic, "Gone With The Wind". The canopy overhead takes you back to a time when trees created non stop shade for those long hot sweltering summer months and made travel a little less wearisome. My Dad once told me that the shade trees along the older roads were planted explicitly as shade for travelers.
We arrived at Old Timers at 5:45 and were greeted by Charlie and Darnel and Rick and Donna Hightower giving us a total of twenty members and two guests. Sorry Mike, but my memory has failed me and I can't think of your Granddaughter's name nor her Mom's.
Everybody seemed to have a good time and the food at Old Timers actually seems to get better every trip. I had the blackened catfish with shrimp sauce and Hildia agreed, it was delicious and the coconut pie we shared wasn't bad either.
Roll Call: Paul & Dianne Talkington (GL1800 Trike) Myron & Bev Coney (Mustang Convertible) Danny & Lori Parker (Victory Hammer) Rick & Donna Hightower ( HD Ultra Classic) Tim & Linda Duncan (GL 1800) Charlie & Darnel Gibson (Yamaha Venture) Terry & MC Scott (Honda Super Scoot) Lou & Carla Nathan (GL1800) Mike & Bonnie & Zikoski & guests (Triumph) and Hildia Max & Yours Truly (GL 1800)
A few worthless and boring facts about the ride: We rode a grand total of 56 miles, start to finish. Our average speed was 38.3 MPH and saddle time was 1:38 and we hit an astronomical top speed of 65.9 MPH
