Crowley's Ridge Runner
De-Brief - by: B.J. Max

April 23, 2011

Well our second ride of the year is now in the books and like the first it was windy. Hildia and I thought we were going to get blown off the Hernando-DeSota Bridge on the way over to West Memphis and our rendezvous. The wind on the bridge seemed to be coming from all directions at once and controlling the motorcycle suddenly went from fun to just plain old work

We had a few hardy souls show up for this ride but not many. Hildia speculates that it was partly due to the weather and partly due to it being Easter weekend. I think she is probably right. Nevertheless, six bikes were on hand giving us a respectable turnout.

The wind was again tough across the plains of Arkansas but as soon as we turned off I-40 onto Crowley's Ridge Road it was as if someone turned a fan off. The trees masked the twenty five MPH winds and it was very pleasant. We took a break at the park the rode on to Paragould and Couch's BBQ, had dinner then scampered back south towards Jonesboro out running thunderstorms that were moving in from the west. The trip home was uneventful and Hildia and I arrived back home at 3:20PM...The wind wore us out but other than that we had a great ride.

Roll Call: Paul Romesburg, Richard & Donna Hightower, Danny Parker, Charlie & Darnel Gibson, Buck & Donna Perminter, Hildia Max and Yours Truly.

A few meaningless stats: We rode a total of 266 miles and averaged 51.2 MPH. Saddle Time was 5:12 and our maximum speed was 83.2 MPH
