Raw! That's the best way to describe our ride to Loretta Lynn's in Buffalo, TN this past weekend. The weather guys said temps would reach seventy degrees. Ha! Proves what they know. Sixty one degrees was the highest temp my bikes thermometer registered and that was briefly. Most of the day temps hovered around fifty nine degrees. And it was a damp fifty nine and with north winds at fifteen sustained that meant cold, brisk weather. Everybody had electric vests going except me. I had unloaded Hildia's vest for my trip to Florida and forgot to put it back in the saddlebag so I ended without a vest and at times I really got the chills. At sixty and sixty five MPH wind chills made it feel like fifty degrees.
We had dinner at Loretta Lynn's Kitchen in Buffalo. It was buffet style and not great in my opinion. It wasn't awful, just mediocre. With half the restaurant a gift shop they seemed more interested in selling you souvenirs than food.
After dinner we rode on up Highway 13 to Hurricane Mills and Loretta Lynn's home. She has a very nice spread up there. We passed by the dirt bike track where one of the AMA's biggest races is held every year on her property. I think it's called the Loretta Lynn Classic. There was of course Loretta's home, a beautiful southern mansion built on the style of Tara in "Gone With The Wind". Across the street is a grist mill powered by the Buffalo River and there is also a museum nearby...
We took the required photos and then headed for home via I-40. It was a cold ride but as usual we had fun. But as cold as it was we still stopped at the DQ in Brownsville. Go figure..
