Our ride to the Mustang Cafe in Loretto, TN was a dandy. Well, the trip up was anyway. We met in Collierville then rode to LaGrange took a southerly route dropping down into Mississippi via highway five through Ashland. We picked up Highway four down in there somewhere followed it to state highway thirty then picked up the Natchez Trace for roughly thirty miles, jumped off and rode on in to Loretto via Iron City...Dynamite roads almost all the way...
The Mustang Cafe was a hit. Good food, friendly staff and the owner, Mr. Bill Moore was almost too friendly. He came over and visited with us several times, passed out free onion rings and later free ice cream. I had the catfish filet and I'm here to tell you, it was delicious as were the hush puppies, fries and iced tea. The only complaint I heard was about the slaw being to mushy, other than that everybody was happy as clams with the food. The parking lot was a bit of a challenge but otherwise, a great place to visit and we shall return...
I messed up on the return trip. I should have reversed the route and went back through Iron City, picked up the Trace and followed it to US 72 and headed for home. Instead I went through that mess called Florence. Actually it was Florence, Sheffield and Muscle Shoals and they all intermingle in a dreadful jumble of traffic and stop lights. Over a hundred thousand red necks crammed into that tiny space created utter chaos. I didn't think we would ever escape but we did. After picking up US 72 I could hardly keep my throttle under control I wanted to put that place behind me so bad. We didn't stop 'til we got to the DQ in Corinth.
