2012 Polar Bear Ride

Well we now have our first ride of the New Year safely under our belts. And, other than a bit of wind it was a good ride. We left the Kroger Store in Collierville at noon straight up and down and took the back roads to Jackson. Backroads? Now there's an understatement. Some were more like pig paths. But when planning a ride how can you resist a byway called Steam Mill Road. I couldn't. Steam Mill Road by the way is where one of our long time members Brenda Hopper lives. We passed right by her home but when I recognized it we had already passed. Too bad. I'm sure she would have appreciated a short visit just to say hello.

We arrived at the Old Country Store in Jackson to find the parking lot full. We had to make do with three or four spots and crammed all the bikes in. This didn't surprise anyone however. This place is always packed. At this point, Howard, aboard his IBA outfitted FJR, had to leave us here because of out of town Holiday Company waiting at home. We understand Howard. Gotta' do what you gotta' do.

We chowed down on some good country cooking and actually got waited on pretty quick despite the crowd. But we didn't tarry because the sun was sinking fast and we knew we had better hit the trail as soon as dinner was finished because once it went down it was gonna' get cold. Todd and John left us after dinner and rode south, a better route home for them.

We rode home nonstop opting for the almost traffic free highway 70 as opposed to I-40's bumper to bumper high speed roller derby. Hildia and I pulled into the drive at 4:45 on the dot. A good day it was with good friends and good times.

ROLL CALL: Tim Duncan, , Lou & Carla Nathan, Buck & Donna Perminter, John White, Paul Romesburg, Todd Simpson, Howard Entman, Joe Shoemaker, Hildia Max and Yours Truly.

Captain's Log: Average speed; 45.1 MPH
Saddle time; 3:50:58
Maximum speed; 77.7 MPH
Mileage; 185.2
